Greetings to everyone in Christ’s name! The following account is our family biography, so that you may know more about me and my family.
I was born in Marion in 1963 and my family moved to Goshen in 1971. I graduated from Goshen High School (’82) and then Indiana University (‘87). I have a Master’s of Divinity from Earlham School of Religion (‘00) and was ordained a full elder in The United Methodist Church (’03). Brenda was born in Goshen before her family moved to Bristol, IN. She graduated from Elkhart Central High School (’80) and from Manchester College (’84). She has a Master’s in Public Relations from Ball State (‘03).
Brenda and I were married November 15, 1997 while I was pastor of my first church, Farmland UMC. Next, I became the pastor of Muncie Madison Street, followed by Woodburn, before being appointed to pastor at Waterloo. Brenda has spent her career in marketing/communications. She is currently a communications specialist for Parkview Health, working in the corporate office off of DuPont Rd.
Brenda has a younger brother, David, living in Goshen, while her parents, Bob & Norma Gregory, live in Bristol. I have a younger brother, Eddie, living in Indianapolis, a younger sister, Maureen Randall, residing in Fishers, while my parents, Larry & Jayne, live in Noblesville.
God blessed our family in 2003 with two additional members, as we became foster parents of Meredith and Tori. The adoption of both girls was finalized in 2005 and we gave them new first names, Rachel and Emily. Rachel (Meredith) is nine years old and is a 4th grader at Waterloo Elementary, while Emily (Tori) is eight and is a 2nd grader.
I enjoy sports, but Brenda does not! Brenda enjoys shopping, but I do not! At least we both like to travel, when possible, and hanging out at our cottage near Angola, as our busy schedules permit. Meredith and Tori like their school and teachers, plus they are enjoying girl scouts this year. They are also learning to help more at home with the chores and to take good care of our dog, Millie, and two cats, Libby & Lucy.
We are excited to be in Waterloo and connected to such a wonderful church family. Thanks to everyone for receiving us with love and warmth and we look forward to enjoying many years of Christian fellowship together.
God’s blessings,
Pastor David Mathews, Brenda, Meredith & Tori
